Hello all.

I know the UTH pads has been covered a lot here. But I still have a question. My tank is 12" wide by 31" long. It says it's a 20 gallon, but the dimensions more closely resemble a 29 gallon tank. Anyway, most UTH's are 8" wide at largest. My question is, how close to the edges can I go with a UTH, or how close should it go? I'd like to find a UTH that is wider, something like a 11" x 12". Or would an 8" x 12" be just as good? Thank you for the help. :)

Ideally you'd want the heat pad to be 1/3 the size of the floor space. You can go to the edges with it, just make sure that the tank is not resting on the cord to the heat mat. Usually the UTH comes with some sticky bumpers you put underneath each corner of the tank so it gives the cord some room to breath. You can find 11"x12" online. I would go with that one. Hope this helps!
