Hello! I'm upgrading from a standard 10 gallon to the Exo Terra 18x18x12 vivarium. Since the tank is an unusual size/shape, I'm not quite sure what size UTH I should get. Based on Zoo Med's measurements, I'm deciding between the medium (8x12) and small (6x8). My main dilemma is using the heater under just the warm hide, or providing warm floor space as well. Goji likes to sleep out in the open on occasion, so I figure it might make sense to go with the medium. Thoughts anyone?

Get the 8x6 or about that size. The UTH only need to take up about 1/4 of the floor space to create the suitable temp gradient. I do recommend buying a temp gun or probe thermometer to monitor the temps.

I have a laser temp gun and a temperature regulator with probe that I plug my current mat into. I thought it was supposed to cover 1/3 of the tank floor space?

Excellent. 1/4 to 1/3 will do. Just make sure the warm hide is over the UTH. Your gecko will choose this area when seeking warmth.

I have the same size tank! I chose the medium size. The temp gradient is actually pretty good. I find that the hotest part of the heat mat is the middle.. so it works for me.
