UTH SIZE?

I'm getting the 24x18x12 (about 22 gallons) soon and I was wondering what size under tank heater I should get. My other tank isn't as wide so it was easy to pick. I'm thinking of the UltraTherm 17x11. This would cover the whole right side where I would have my warm hide and moist hide. And it would be about half of the tank. Most people recommend 1/3 of the tank and I was wondering if 1/2 was ok?

Half seems like it would be okay with an Ultratherm, but you may need a thermostat to make sure. I know generally those are supposed to stay below 95 F, but any overheating would be dangerous with a pad that large. They don't seem to make a size that would be 1/3.

Another option would be the ZooMed ReptiTherm 8 x 12. That one will definitely require a thermostat control.

In my experience, you want to try to stick to a third or less. Having more than a third may have an impact on regulating temperature. I have one tank which the uth is closer to a quarter than a third and my gecko knows exactly where to go after eating. Really the heat pads are best for digestion aide and not so much for temperature regulation. As long as you have one that fits the gecko it should be okay. The larger ones tend to be pricey. If money isn't an option and you feel like that's the best solution, go for it, it shouldn't be an issue. Also having an uth under the moist hide will raise humidity a bit, so that's something to consider.
