I just want to know what determines the power or heat of a heat pad.

Is it the Wattage eg 14W or is it the Volts eg 220V?

For example I just bought a 14W 220V heat pad thats too hot. Will it bring the temp down if I buy a 10W 220V heat pad?

Any help would be appreciated :)

The wattage is what determines heat output. How hot is your heat pad? Do you have the tank raised up to allow for ventilation around the heat pad?

Watts is what determines the heat output.

Instead of getting a 10W, look into getting a rheostat (light dimmer) or a thermostat. This way you can set temps. a lot more accurately, and you'd sill be able to use your 14W heat pad.

The difference between the two is that a thermostat will pretty much do all the work for you; after setting your high and low, it'll turn the heat pad on and off to keep temps. in the desired range.
