will a 10 gallon uth get too hot for paper towel? Or do you need a thermostat?

You should deffinately use a thermostat.

I got mine for about $30 on ebay. It is the Alife 1000 which is the same as the ESU. A little cheaper one is the ZooMed 500R, but I have heard bad things about that.
