one of my hatchlings was covered in vermiculite after it was born. the vermiculite was still there the next day so i brushed it off. i got most of it off but i can still see tiny specs in places like its armpits.

im worried the gecko is going to injest these the first time it sheds. has anybody else had problems like this? what can i do?

I would soak the hatching in some (very little amount) luke warm water and take a q tip and try and get as much off as you can if not all of it it should come off. do not leave the hatchling unattended in the soak . then it should have no problems shedding. you do not want to risk letting the hatching eat the vermiculite. I had a baby Cat gecko choke to death on its shed because it was covered with vermiculite,
But that is just one of the things we breeders learn along the way . some times more often then not the hard way.

Actually having the same issue, i found this thread... It's my 2nd baby, first one hatched only days ago... So i got no experience with them, tried to remove some of it (he started licking it, even swallowed a bit...) but it's very hard, soaking the hatching doesn't get the vermiculite off and he's running away everytime i try removing it (i'm not even touching the baby, i have a tiny tweezer so i touch only vermiculite but it's still making him crazy...
