I don't know about EcoEarth, but I chose Perlite over Vermiculite because I read up on both of them and Vermiculite, at least for a time, had Asbestos in it, which is known to cause cancer. If you Google it or check Wikipedia I'm sure you'll find the same information. I'm almost sure that the problem has been taken care of, but you never know how long something has been sitting on the shelf at a store.

The only gecko I have ever hatched, was incubating in Perlite (other egg was infertile). Everyone has their opinions, but the Perlite was my choice, as it just seemed "cleaner" if that makes any sense. I know others use different mediums with no problems, but I'll continue using Perlite this breeding season.

in my thoughts
for the last two season I've been using Vermiculite with out a problem. Of course it really doesnt matter because people also use Perlite very successfully. I know people might say perlite is better, but to me all my eggs that had a fair chance hatched.
For egg laying I would use either Vermiculite,Sphagnum moss and Ecoearth. But a mixture of vermiculite and sphagnum would result in a longer humid/ porous substrate. Geckos may ingest the moss and vermiculite from time to time, but none of my geckos have become impacted while using it.

I use peat moss or bed-a-beast as my lay substrate. With no problems. Last season I switched to Repashy Superhatch as my incubation medium. It was easy and worked great.

Look into Hatchrite. It worked really well for me this past year. I was 8 for 8.

Hatchrite is just pre-moistened perlite. But I would definitely recommend Perlite whether pre-moistened or not. I`ve had way too many problems with the Big V.

Nigel I didnt know that hatchrite was just perlite. Guess there is a sucker born everyday. I am sure that I paid alot more for the hatchrite that I would have for the perlite. But I really cant complain with the results that I had.
