vermiculite question

so i finally got the hova bator to hopefully hatch some eggs. i jwas just wondering how high up in the deli cup should the vermiculite go. should it cover the holes in the upper ring of the cup? do i need to put water on the vermiculite?

I use about an inch of vermiculite and just mist the vermiculite enough so its just a little moist, you don't want it real damp just enough to wear it compacts together but breaks apart easily.
