My favorite little girl lost her tail due to something dropping on it. It looked like she was going to keep it but I checked her today and it is gone. My question is....where did it go? It is not in her tank and she has no tank mates. Do they *shudders* eat their own tail? I suppose if they do there is a reason for it but it seems like there is not where else it could go. Has anyone else had this before?

That would be the only explanation. I would apply neosporin one time, that's what I did and it helped.

Does anyone know if she will be able to digest it or should I worry it's gonna get stuck inside her somewhere?

Thank you. She is out right now and it looks like it is closing over already. Happens pretty quickly by the looks of it.

I'm sorry your gecko lost her tail. When the tail drops, the nerves make the tail twitch for several minutes. The purpose of this is to distract potential predators towards the tail so the lizard can escape. Chances are that the gecko saw her own tail doing that and thought it was food. Sounds gross, but it's nature. Keep her on paper towel with Neosporin on the stub, and it will begin to grow back. Regenerated tails look best when kept soft with a petroleum-based ointment as it grows out.

That is very good to know. I will do this!
