Many of you may remember that my Lemzip had his tail amputated earlier this year; the emergency vet stitched up his wound and so he's just left with a very short stub. Well, last night he was in shed, and when he's done, I checked him for retained shed and noticed the underside of his little stub VERY red. I'm extremely worried that he may have an infection.

I called the vet clinic this morning as soon as they open, and was told that their most knowledgeable vet, who is specialised in reptiles, is fully booked till November! And I know her bookings are mainly for seeing cats and dogs...Yes, I know everybody's pets are precious, but there are just so little reptile vet here and their time slot is always taken up by non-reptile owners! I finally did made an appointment with someone else that sees reptile, but the earliest is Friday, still FOUR days to go!

Sorry for ranting, but I get really stressed when something happens to my geckos. I woke up 6 o'clock this morning, checked Lemzip again, the area is still red but a lot less than last night; there are a couple spots that are deep red though. I really hope that he is not having an infection, and the redness is caused by shedding last night. Maybe that area is still too delicate? Good thing is he's still acting and eating normal.

I hope everything turns out okay with him! Can you post some pics? Maybe someone will be able to help in the meantime. It could be possible that the area is still too delicate or maybe he had some problems getting his skin off and he tore at that area a little harder? You could try giving him some warm water soaks with about a tablespoon of peroxide.

Best of luck to you, sorry he couldn't get the help that he needs right away. Keep us updated with him!

Poor Lemzip! He has really had a hard time! We know how much you love your geckos, Bonnie. Can you try to put some antibiotic ointment on the raw places and see if they will heal on their own?

I checked him last night, the area is still red but a lot better than the night before. I don't see any open wound on him; I can't tell if the redness is showing through from the flesh inside or just the skin.

I'll keep everyone updated!

We've just been to the vet. :)

Dr. Peter thinks Lemzip has a minor infection; I was given some needles to give Lemzip anti-biotic injections once every 3 days. Then we'll go back again in 2 weeks. I had applied a "Silversulf" cream on him in the meanwhile, and the vet told us to continue the use of the anti-bacterial cream daily. So...its good news that the vet thinks, at this stage, that the problem is not too serious. The problem now is the injections!! I'll need to get my husband to hold him still, while I do the injection. My guess is that my husband will probably faint when he sees the needle. He felt all dizzy last time he had a blood test! LOL.

The vet showed me how to do it today, so the next shot is next Monday. Hope I can do it alright.
