Can a MOD please move this to the appropriate forum section? Thanks!

What was the diagnosis and what kind of medicine was given? If you have leopard geckos, they need the bottom heat for proper digestion, 90-95 degrees. This temperature is best measured with a digital probe thermometer attached to the floor on the warm side. Heat lights are not needed except to maintain warmth in the winter when it's very cold.

you also need to be careful what a vet tells you, unless he or she is a reptile special vet, just like pet stores, they just want your money! so just a word of caution! use a reptile specific vet...other vets tend to think what works for a cat or dog will work for reptiles...

Sounds like a vet that confused a leopard gecko with other "lizards" like iguanas that absorb heat from above.

No you don't want to get rid of the under tank heater, leopard geckos absorb heat from their belly, not their backs. But speaking of heat, what you should do is to test your temperature, make sure the under tank heater is heating the tank properly. A ceramic bulb can be used to add warmer ambience air temperature as well as help heat the surface where your leos lay on.
