i have a nova that was bred in march. she has not and will not lay her eggs. she has been to the vet twice and he said that they will not move down the birth canal so she can lay them. they did not seem calcified when he examined her for the second time. he said that i could wait a little while longer and see if she resorbs them or have surgery to remove them and spay her. he said that if this happened once, it usually will happen again and surgery to remove the eggs alone does not help.
i have her scheduled for surgery monday but what i am wondering is if it is worth it to have the surgery ($300). she was going to be in my breeding program but not now.
do geckos usually do well after surgeries?

You may want to see if the Vet can use a needle and suck out the egg insides. I've read that this sometimes works. Your question about post surgery issues is interesting in that if you do nothing she'll die and if you do the surgery she may also die. I guess what are your ultimate plans keep her for a pet then where she could have a long happy life at the expence of a few bucks or ignore it and cause her some pain before she passes...Your call I know what mine would be....

i inquired about this when i took her in on april 20th for her first vet visit. he said that he has never performed the procedure on a lizard and only did it on a bird that had the eggs in the birth canal. he said that he has heard of it not being very good due to the fact that some of the juices could leak out and cause infections.
thanks for the input.
