Can I get some opinions from you all on the Repashy Hydro Load? I currently use the polymer water crystals but wondering if I should switch to the Repashy Hydro Load.

For Repashy info..Repashy Hydro-Load or Amazon.com: 16oz Repashy Hydro-Load Feeder Insect Water Replacement Gutload Gel Mix: Pet Supplies

1. - Since the Hydro Load is advertised as:

A plant based water replacement gel that eliminates the need for using standing water for insect culture. This Gel Premix is a non-chemical polymer-based alternative to the commonly sold "Water Crystals" with the addition of water soluble calcium and magnesium. It is designed to act as a Calcium/Magnesium Gutload and replace the need for standing water for insects fed a dry diet

My thought is this is better than just the water crystals that have no additives....

2. Also thinking if I can make it in large soap like cubes, it wouldn't dehydrate as fast as the water crystals therefore less need to refill the bug's water dish....and less waste.

Has anyone used these that can share their thoughts, comments, experiences please?

Thanks in advance all

I have never used water crystals. I didn't like the idea of using something so synthetic to provide water. Also, there's the fact that I would be disposing of them afterward and putting them out into the world to degrade.

I use Repashy HydroLoad in combination with lots of fresh veggies to provide moisture. My roaches like veggies better, but the HydroLoad is there as a backup water supply at all times. I make a serving and keep it in the fridge--just cut off little squares as needed. If you need to store it for longer, you can freeze it, but I found that it got a little watery after freezing/thawing.

HydroLoad isn't perfect (has a preservative in it), but I prefer that to the idea of water crystals.

Oh, forgot to mention, because it's a food-based geletin, the gel does need to be replaced every couple of days. I usually replace mine twice a week. After a while, you figure out the right portion so that almost all of it gets eaten. :)

I have used the crystals and have never had any issues as of now. But I also provide fresh foods to them as well. Hope this helps.
