WC Imports??

This came up in another thread, and what I remember hearing about it is sketchy at best.

What is the story on obtaining WC leos in the US? I'm under the impressing that there haven't been ANY imports in the last 6 or 7 years. From what I remember, I thought this was due to either the US not allowing imports from the countries, or the countries not allowing export to the US. You know....those tricky international relationships with the middle east.

Can someone fill us in on the real deal?

I think it was Gregg that had hatched some WC offspring this year (for the first time), but the female is like 7 years old. Beyond that, I haven't heard any (or at least remember) credible stories of F1 offspring from a true WC.

Michael (420Geckos) says he knows an importer that can get WC leos, but at a minimum quantity of 400 x $7.00 ea. Is this possible? Or do you think the importer is talking about normal "wild type" leos that are CB?

Well Rhac lives in germany and he has w/c leos, so you could paobably obtain some from sombody NOT in the middle east.

Only Pakistan allows the export of wild caught geckos to the United States. Most of the lepard geckos sold in the U.S. are captive-bred.

From what I understand, the USA has not allowed ANY importation of WC reptiles from the Middle East in some time. Now, as far as importing WC's from Europe, that may be a different story. My vet has a 1.2 group of WC Leopard Geckos (he is one of the vets for the Oakland Zoo), and he really has no interest in breeding them.

So, in theory, someone could get a WC from someone in Europe? Or do you think them being a wild animal from the middle east would still prevent importation? I'm sure that getting F1 offspring should be possible.

I beleive its called an Embargo(one of our vocab words). You cant buy or sell any thing to a country we are at war with. It could help fund the war their or they could send us a bomb or somthing. So there probably havent been any exports since 9/11.

Not always war, look at Cuba. We dont trade with them because they are a communist nation, and that whole missle crisis thing. but yes, it is an embargo

I said not always, i know its the case now. Sometimes certain things will fit multiple situations, in this case ideology and war can both cause an embargo to be placed. I watch the news, it tells me how much of a retard our president is and who it is who hates us that day. Channel 13

That reads to me as:

"My country (Pakistan) doesn't allow legal exportation, but we exporters pay off the customs agent to get around it."

I seriously doubt that he didn't mention it because the ban is new. He probably didn't mention it because he never planned to be legal in the first place.

I would stay away Michael! Getting involved in illegal importing/exporting would be a very bad deal!! I'm sure that it would be possible to obtain some F1 leos from Europe, probably at a higher cost but at least it should be legal then.

Oh don't worry I never planned on buying any from him! I'm running out of room with hatchlings from just 7 females. Where would I put a 400 lot of WCs?! Not to mention the vet bills to have 400 fecals!

It might be a good idea to consult CITES before doing any type of importation... whether it's from the Middle-East or anywhere.
