My gecko seems to be gaining weight very quickly. I know that this is not typically a problem, but I am concerned it might be putting on too much weight too fast. I feed it 5-7 medium to full size crickets and 12 medium mealworms every day. I have read that you can't overfeed them, but I am beginning to wonder. Here is the chart.....let me know what you think:

Winston the Leopard Gecko
Date Weight (grams)
Hatchling ~3
1/7/2012 7.9
1/13/2012 6.5
1/21/2012 7
1/28/2012 11.7
2/11/2012 19.8
2/19/2012 27.7
2/25/2012 32.1
3/3/2012 39.2
3/10/2012 47.7

Thanks-
Les

My gf and I do a weekly weight log for our Leo and it usually increased by 2 grams a week and occasionally 3-5. To see spikes of 8-9 grams in a week is quite a lot! I'm no vet so but nearly doubling in weight in a week and then increasing by 30% the next week seems excessive.

Yes, he has grown in length while attaining these gains. I agree these gains do seem excessive. He has a voracious appetite and has daily BMs with no regurgitation of meals.

2g a week is about right. Typically 8-10g a month is considered healthy growth rate. As long as they are not getting "Fat" you should be okay.

I had some jungle tremper boys that hatched out near Halloween last year and are already 60-65g. They are a little over 4 months old. I do not over feed them and they are no where near "fat". I figured it's genetics passed on from the parents that are bigger in size than normal. So that also can play a role.
