What age can you sex a leo?

I'm getting a little leo tomorrow, and I am very excited! He's a good six inches, still really young. Not sure how old he is. I asked the lady what he was and she said he was still a bit young to tell, but was pretty sure he was male since he's bigger than the other one, and definitely looks more male since his head/neck shape. He's also not as vibrant as the other one, although I'm not sure if that has to do with sex?

But he's young! At what age can you REALLY tell what sex they are? I hope he is male, I already named him Zeus. :) I'll be sure to post pictures!

The female in my profile picture has a big head and a bulky build, and is a female. Before you buy them, you might want to research all the morphs, ones at pet stores are usually the cheap morphs (high yellows, normals, trempers) you might find other ones if you're lucky. It would probably be best if you wait for your local reptile show and buy from there, more choices and better prices.
Vibrant colors have two factors, first one is genetics, and the second one is mood.
There are many different morphs, they mostly come in yellow-orange colors, some with a little lavender. When they're happy, they can go from an ugly dull color to a bright fresh color. When they're colors turn pretty, it's called being "fired up"
You should be able to, if it has a row of dark dots in a V formation, it's a male.
If it's around 5-6 inches, you should be able to sex it.

Okay, I will look at it more! He did have a V! The lady is horrible, she has them on sand, isn't giving them calcium... and I don't know. She touched him without washing her hands... who KNOWS what she was touching that day!

I know it is risky buying from a store, but I live in a really tiny town and we definitely do not have reptile shows. Maybe one ever 4 years or something, but it is not a common occurance. I could travel 5 hours to get a different one; however, I fell in love with this one the moment I saw him! I just want to save him from the pet store. He's really fiesty and alert. I'm going to examine him thoroughly tomorrow, but when I saw him he had really alert eyes, good-sized tale, he eats a LOT and is really active! The only thing that worried me was he had a piece of skin on his eye from shedding, but that should be off by now. She didn't have a moist hide for them either! They're in SUCH a tiny cage!

I will take care of him and he will be happy, I just know it. I have faith! :)

It sounds like you will be able to rescue this guy and give him a new home. Just understand that sometimes these animals, if treated for poorly, can come with parasites and other ailments that may make it very difficult for you help him with. I'm positive he'll be a good healthy addition to your home but always prepare for the worst and hope for the best
