Agreed, snakes are essentially unable to be sexed visually. So by inserting a sexing probe the owner can feel for the reproductive organs to tell for sex of the animal. Remember many reptiles (even Leos) have a cloacle which is basically one hole used for everything..

Could you imagine if we were like that?!!

May I also suggest that, if you do not know how to use sexing probes correctly, you not try them out! You can do serious damage to the animal if you don't know precisely how to probe.

By the way, there are other ways to sex snakes without the use of probes.

They are being sold because I have no use for them.

Yes, i use the other method called "popping", hold your thumb above the vent of the snake and slide your other thumb from up from the tail tip section to the base (vent) with light pressure, which if done properly will pop a males
hemi-peins out. (Xcuse my spelling) and if nothing pops out its a female.

Only do if thought by some one with experience, i learned from my father who is a big colubrid breeder. And this method is only done on smaller snakes.

Learn to count scales Matt ;) Tail length is a very good indication on subadult and adult snakes.

I can pop, probe and ID from tail length. I owned many snakes for 13 years, but got tired of shoveling diggested 20 pound rabbits up.
