First they can start be pulling their heads out of their butts and get everyone on the same page. I'm not sure if this should be over in rants & raves but here's what happened;
I go to deliver a package that I'm shipping to a customer and decided to deliver in person to my local UPS hub, something I do on occasion. It started going downhill the minute I left the house. I was driving down a country road when out of nowhere I hit a Red-Tailed Hawk who ended up only hitting my windshield wiper with it's talons and took half of it with him. Now after a change of underwear, I get to the hub and hand my package over to the lady at the counter ( get your head out of the gutter, that's not what I meant). I'm almost out the door when she calls me back and hands me back the box and say's, yep you guessed it, " we don't accept live animals" and proceeds to point over to a poster on the wall ( which looks like it's been up since the Carter administration) that lists all things not allowded. I told her to check their website and it would tell her that I could ship them and that they were an allowdedanimal to ship through UPS. She tells me that it's up to the site supervisor whether or not to allow any live animals to be shipped, which evidentually at this site they will not do. If this supervisor doesn't want to allow live animals, then they don't have to reguardless of what the UPS site states. My question is, who the hell is running UPS??? Last time I checked their were big brown trucks passing through the place and a big UPS sign hung above the door. From what I got today is that they( hub) must not be regulated by UPS, but instead they are managed soley by site supervisors who I guess make up their own rules and regulations. I understand that UPS stores are independants and can set their own standards, but from what I understand a hub is in direct correlation with corporate UPS. What is on UPS's website should be the standard at ALL hubs.
Well by this time I pretty pissed off and explain that I have a certified account with them to ship reptiles, that I've shipped through this hub before ( funny thing is the guy that I normally hand the packages to was standing next to this lady and had the nerve to deny ever accepting packages labeled live anything before), and I have had drivers from that hub do pick-ups from my house with no problems. She then tells me to contact my local Rep. and have them contact this hub in order for them to send the package through. Well this hub closes at 7:00 p.m and it's now 6:40 p.m., so I jump on the phone and am put on hold for 20 minutes just to be told an email has been sent to my local Rep. and that she would contact me in the morning ( if it were only possible to reach through the phone:evil: ). Meanwhile a call was put in to this hub to let the package process through this time, which made me somewhat happy.
Now I get to start tomorrow by complaining to my Rep. about all this. This incident won't make me bail on them only because I have had very few issues with them in the past and those issues were always dealt with rather promptly. I just wish they can get all their employees on the same page when it comes to shipping live animals so I don't have to keep hearing that line again.
As far as hitting that hawk with my car, I for some reason seem to only be able to run over things that fly. I have also hit an owl along with numerous birds ( many fly into the grill and become wedged only to find them when cleaning the car). When I hit the Owl, the road was slightly higher than a fence row I was driving along. It took off and flew horizonally across the street and right into the car. God what's next, a Bald Eagle:main_rolleyes:
