I have one leopard gecko. I started with a jar for the crickets, now a coffee can.

If I put them in a storage bin, doesn't it get gross in there fast?

I have the fluckers cricket gel and it gets everywhere.

What am I doing wrong? TIA!! :help:

I use a cricket carrier that I got from my work (the place I work ends with smart) at any rate its really nice because it has black tubes the crickets crawl up in so you dont have to catch them and the dont escape. I just put a little egg crate in there and a half of a red potato because that works for both food and water.

In a tub, with screen on top and egg crates for them to hide in.

BUT, for one leopard gecko, that cricket keeper would do just fine. You don't want to produce thousands of crickets and have nothing to do with them. When I got my first leo, my husband went on ebay and got me a Kricket Keeper just like the one pictured for half the price they sell them for at pet stores...so if ebay is an option, that's the way to go!

I used to keep a few crickets in a critter keeper like that one but without the stick things. It really depends on how many crickets your keeping. if your keeping a few use the critter keeper but if you have a lot use a tub

How often do you clean one of those out? I've been feeding mine the quencher and oats.

I have one leo, and I have the next size up of the critter keeper pictured above....but mine doesn't have the black tubes.

What I do:
-Purchase 36 crickets from my local pet shop (lasts me ~6 days)...the keeper could easily handle 100 crickets.
-Lay down paper towel in the critter keeper
-One low dish with gutload made from ground dry dog food, oats, and others.
-Another low dish with water gel in it
-One Half piece of egg crate
-One TP roll tube
-Some fresh orange peel

Come feeding time, I pull the TP tube out (which has crix hiding in it), dump the crix in a cup with calcium/vitamin in it, shake it, and then let em go in the gecko tank.

When I run out of crickets, I pull everything out, throw the towel away, put down a new one, replace the orange peel, and it's good to go for another round.

Personally, I HATE crickets! They get really smelly and then they start to cannibalize and then the body's start to rot. How do you guys take it?!

I'm not crazy about them either, but they are my leos favorite food.

I clean their tub at least once a week, and change the food daily,
that cuts down alot on the smell, and if they have a good diet, they wont
cannibalize.

I'll pick one up tomorrow. I just gave him his last batch. I'm going to have to battle the crowds for crickets tomorrow.

Herman is a bottomless pit right now.

I like feeding him crickets because he seems to love the chase.

It's so cute! He never wagged his tail for mealies. Now he won't even touch them. I throw one in his tree to watch him climb up there to get it.

When I ran out of the crickets today, I had saved a few big ones for last because I was worried he would choke. He didn't choke. :D

Cricket Keeper

I have the small cricket keeper, the large cricket keeper and a plastic storage box 12in high, 12 in long and about 8 in wide.

You can put about 10 - 15 large crickets in the small keeper.

30 to 40 large crickets in the large keeper.

40 to 60 large crickets in the plastic storage box.

Make sure that you put the containers in a bath tub when you are putting crickets in them.

If you feed your adult gecko 15 crickets a week then, you could use only one container. However, you have to consider that some of the crickets will die so you may need a larger container.

So you may need two containers one to use and the other ready to use.

I bought a small one. I bought 50 small crickets. He'll put away eight a day right now, so they won't last.
