Im told using a blender is not the best idea as grinding up cat/dog food would be too hard on it

What method do you use to grind up cat/dog food for your gutload?

Will it Blend? by Blend Tec has some answers. Just be sure to... y'know... label the blender you plan to fill with dog food and insects, because antennae in their smoothies tends to upset non-herper guests attending your parties and barbecues.

I'v been using the magic bullet and its been doing a decent job. It seems though as its having some trouble after a few months of doing cup after cup after cup of food. im there for a long time grinding up 10 pounds of dubia chow monthly.

I would like something that will do larger batches and not break down.

I was able to find an older food processer at the local thrift store for $5.00!!! Works great!

On a related note - does anyone have a certain brand of cat food they like over another?

I bought some gutload along with my roaches and they loved it so I asked the shipper what kind it was and was told Special Kitty. This is only sold in Walmart so I just went with what had the highest protien cat food I could find at the local pet store.

Turned out to be Science Diet Kitten food with 33% protien.

Problem is - the roaches dont go through it as fast as they did the special kitty. So I am wondering if I need to find something comparable to Special Kitty or if anyone has a favorite brand?

i bought a blender especially for grinding roach chow. so far it's held up fabulously. the main thing is to not overload the unit to keep it from overheating and burning up.

good luck!

Thanks - do you happen to have a favorite cat food blend you use? See below?

I dont own a cat so i buy the biggest bag they have at the best price that still has the protine I need for the chow. I've used many different brands my dubia go through the chows all the same.

so far still using the magic bullet but hoping to find something larger for a good price that will take the abuse.
