What happened to viper geckos?

Where are the viper geckos? Every breeder site is either not selling, or currently unavailible. Classifieds dont have any of them. Where can you get one? I've been really interested with them.

They really did just about vanish completely from the hobby. I know a few people who work with them, but they do not advertise.

I believe a popularity fad is a more likely explanation. They were a hot species for a while, then everyone had them, bred them, found that the market had become saturated and dumped them.
