Looking for a little help here. Tonight I was soaking my daughters male gecko to help get some shedding skin off his toes and when I flipped him over I saw this. Any idea what it could be? He is in a 20 gallon tank with a similar size female, both are around 57 grams at last weight in a while ago. We don't have a dedicated nest box in the tank, just a cave and a hollow log and they are on repti sand. Some kind of hernia? Reproductive parts? Have no idea. There was some sand stuck to it before the photo so I gently wiped it away with a tissue and it bled just a little.

Any help on what this is would be much appreciated.

Thank you, looked it up and you are right. My wife forgot to tell me but she noticed it a few days ago, not good. He goes to the vet tomorrow.

Hopefully it won't have long-term damage after the delayed treatment. :(

Also, be sure to take special care of your female!! I am pretty sure there is only one way for him to have a prolapsed hemipenis...... She is going to be laying eggs for the next several months, so she will need the special care.

At least from the photo they still look good, nice and pink, so a vet should be able to push them back in, stitch the vent, and take care of it.

I have read in other posts that "Prolapse may result in male fertility issues or sterility."

In the future, if it was me.....I would mate him (if ever again) to a female of "less priority" before I attempted a mating to a female of "HIGH priority."

for example, if I had a $400 Diablo Blanco female and a $100 Tremper female: I would mate him to the Tremper first to be sure he is not sterile, because if he is sterile...the female may be laying duds for the entire season(??).
