What makes a "Giant/Super Giant"

I have a Tremper Albino Giant, he was sold to me as such but there are Leo's with no "giant genetics" that will likely grow larger then him, or at least around the same size.
-So, why aren't Leo's who pass a certain weight and length classed as giants?
They all had to start somewhere and no one would ever guess they weren't "giant"
I'm confused.

In the beginning there were a variety of Leo sizes: small, medium, large and extra large...just like people. At some point a Leo in Trempers collection had a mutation that made it bigger than it would be without this new gene, the giant gene. This gene increases size, so adding it to a gecko that is small makes the gecko medium or large, but adding it to an extra large Leo makes it relatively huge. Furthermore, this gene appears to be inherited in a codominant fashion. Meaning that receiving just one copy of this gene from one parent will increase size, to produce a giant. If a gecko inherits two giant genes, one from each parent, then the offspring will be even bigger, thus producing a super giant.

Now, a Leo that is a giant, but smaller than a non giant would have been a small Leo without this gene. So to answer your question, there are Leo's with no Giant genetics that are bigger than Giants because they are large or extra large Leo's to start with. Imagine adding the Giant gene to these.

I find this interesting as I have a male Tremper albino who is Giant (SG?) sized, but I do not know his genetics. So all I can assume is that he is just a Tremper albino who is extra large.

When a breeder labels a gecko for sale as a giant, it should carry the giant gene, not simply meet a certain size criteria. If I had a 100 gram female , she could be just big, so until I prove her genetics by breeding her to a giant or better yet a super giant, even her offspring to produce giants and super giants, I would not advertise her offspring as giants. Doing so would be unethical.
