I'm looking to buy a new gecko. What i want is something a little more unusual, preferably can be fed manly meal worms (or pretty much anything but roaches/crickets) , $100 or under, ground dwelling, i would like something with a little more of an arid environment, doesn't need UVB/UVA, and not something huge but also not tiny (like able to comfortably live in a 10 gal. tank), something that can handle some handling at least. some species I'm interested in for the way they look are spider geckos, skunk geckos, helmeted geckos, knob tails, panther geckos, fish scale geckos, tiger geckos, and viper geckos. i haven't done a lot of research yet because i wanted to narrow my list down before i start looking to actually get one. So if any of the geckos above fit my description or if there are any i didn't mention that u think my suit me please name them (please don't say leopard geckos or fat tail geckos I already own them and want something different) . I always do a ton of research before i buy an animal so I will be prepared. The species i think most matches my description is the Tibetan frog eyed gecko. Do you guys think these are a good choice?
~ Thank you, Fenn

I think you should get ALL of those geckos, you might as well just give into the addiction now....it's only a matter of time :main_laugh:

Seriously though, I have a panther gecko, viper geckos and helmeted geckos, and I would recommend any of them (provided you have at least some experience with reptiles). However, they are on a rack and all receive UVB/UVA lighting (not sure if it is needed by all of these, but the light was already up). My helmeted geckos love mealies and mealworm beetles (they get roaches too though) and are pretty cool little lizards, fairly calm when handled with the exception of 1 I have our of the 4. I think the viper geckos would be too small to eat regular or large mealies, but could definitely chomp down a small to med size one (I feed them as treats) and they are all super calm. My panther gecko won't even look at a mealie, but I only have 1 so he/she may not be a good representation of the species. He/She is a great eater though, but I started him off on roaches so that my have something to do with it. He/She is also a bit of a spaz. I'm not sure how frog eyed geckos are, but they look adorable in pics. Good luck with whatever you decide on, I'm sure you'll take good care of it.

thank you, I have many years of experience with reptiles (mostly snakes) i'm only now really getting into geckos. I have about 20 different reptiles at the moment. I have always loved helmeted geckos but never gotten any because when ever i found them they were very expensive. I will look into helmets more and also the frog eyed. I saw an ad for an old favorite species of mine, the cat gecko. dose any one have any helpful info on these. i will do research of my own but i would love to hear some personal experiences with some of these species.
