What temperature is good??

Can someone tell me if 88 is a good temperature for my Leo's, (when they come) on the warm side?? I have put the heat mat in one end, it is 11inches x 11inches is that big enough?? The viv is 36inch x 24inch.
I have sealed it with some aquatic sealant, it smells at the moment but the directions say it will go after 48 hours & i have got till Tuesday afternoon after 4pm, so have plenty of time.

Good Temperature

Well 90 to 92 on the hot side is good.

As for the size of the heater, it depends on the size of the tank. The under the tank heater should cover 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottom of the tank.

The 90 to 92 is heat of the surface area of the floor of the tank.

Being new to Leopard Geckos, I am still learning. I just bought a thermometer that will measure the surface temp. While I have thermometers that measure the air temp above the floor area of my tanks, I am finding that my surface temp is 15 degrees higher than the air temp.

I just bought a new under the tank heater that measures 11 by 11 and my tank size is about 29 gallons (a show type).:main_thumbsup:

If youre new to leopard geckos, you may want to reconsider getting two. Theyre solitary animals and housing them together can potentially lead to many problems. If you are certain you want two then make sure you are able to separate them permanently if need be.

Thanks for the replies..........I was under the impression that i could house 2 females together but not 2 males, is that not so then.

You can.
Just be aware that leos are very territorial animals.
They do not require (and often, don't appreciate) company.

Sometimes even 2 females will not get along. They might tolerate eachother and be fine, or they might fight eachother and be extremely territorial.

their kinda like people, some people get along great, others just want to cut the others throat, just be aware that you may have to supply each their own cage, they could be fine together for months and then all the sudden they can be fighting.

That is what I understand how it could be even with females.

The warm side is said to be good anywhere between 88-92 degrees but I like to keep mine right in the middle at 90 since I use a rheothostat my temps tend to jump a little so those few degrees help me change it in time.
