HI there,
Our lizard, Ivan, will be 23 years old this fall. I've noticed over the last year that he's slowed down, doesn't have as much of an appetite and has lost a bit of weight. he's still active and alert and is "happy" to see me when I feed him... I think these are normal signs of aging but I can't say for sure.
Does anyone know what to expect with lizards are they get older? should I be concerned about his symptoms? or is he just aging and like humans slowing down?
A little bit about Ivan, he has his own room, we feed him collard greens and bananas and papaya for treats on special occasions. (BTW - we keep him hydrated by soaking his collard greens in water and not shaking the excess water off, sometimes he'll drink from a bowl if it's really hot out) He goes to the bathroom regularly so all seems well on that front.
He's a good guy, he doesn't really mind us, but really in the whole scheme of things he's just seems very happy sitting on his shelf and watching all the activity out of his window. He only cares about us if we've got food. that I expect is normal behaviour for a green iguana.
does anyone have any comments or thoughts they would like to share?
thanks for reading!
