Its called Mendellian Genetics. lol

It's a little more than that. To a newby all the names of morphs are a bit overwhelming. tremper, bell, Las vegas/ rainwater, then add RT's combos, the gazillion tang lines, signature lines.....

Then take into account the way the gene passes on and the mistaken ID's some people sell geckos at... yikes!

Anyone have any suggestions of where to go to learn all this?

You will learn the basics in school eventually so, STAY IN SCHOOL! Ok I did my community service today.......seriously search the internet (use google/yahoo) or try wikipedia. VMSherps also has a genetics page and shows you how to use a punnet square. LearningCenter

it all comes with experience. the more you read up on geckos the quicker you'll learn and it will come fast. try typing leopard gecko genetics in your google. you will get a lot of sites that will explain basic genetics... The book The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos is also a good start to learn genetics..:)

This is a great place to learn - read past posts and look at LOTS of pictures!

Also some of the breeders on this forum have great info posted on genetics & the different morphs. Read all you can and look at LOTS of pictures. (try http://www.tangerinegecko.com or www.paulsagereptiles.com or www.leopardgeckowiki.com ....oh there are more but can't think off the top of my head --- anyone???)

Of course, you can always ask questions here, everyone is very helpful! (I'm new too, so I am still learning about this stuff too! :))

Learning all the genetics and morphs is one thing, but then actually figuring out how those traits 'behave', is another story completely...

Once you learn about genetics--a cool tool for figuring out your odds with a specific pairing is the "genetics wizard"--just google it and you should find it easily. You'll be a genetics calculating machine in no time :)
