What will I get if I pair up Raptor x Raptor enigma? Or Raptor x Tremper enigma het raptor? What are the percentages of the outcome?

I kept leos for many years but have never bred them, I'm now seriously considering to try breed my geckos maybe one or two years later. I have 1 raptor at the moment, maybe I'll get a female next year, just wondering what female I should get.

What will I get if I pair up Raptor x Raptor enigma?

50% R.A.P.T.O.R.
50% R.A.P.T.O.R. Enigma

Or Raptor x Tremper enigma het raptor?

25% Tremper, het R.A.P.T.O.R.
25% Tremper Enigma, het R.A.P.T.O.R.
25% R.A.P.T.O.R.
25% Enigma R.A.P.T.O.R.

Good luck with your breeding!!!

Thanks for the answer! I might go for option 2 then, since I'll have more variety.

Enigma Raptor aka Nova x Raptor= 50% Nova, 50% Raptor

Enigma Tremper het Raptor x Raptor= 25% het Raptor,25% Raptor, 25% Enigma het Raptor, 25% Nova

Right now Nova's are very rare and expensive $2500 and up. The price will go down with time though.

You will have more Variety but the Leos that will be produced not be worth as much and you will have a lot of hets. But the project would costs much less to start. Good luck.

Its ok, I don't mind the value of the geckos; I intend to incubate 1 to 2 eggs per year only, and I'll keep all the babies myself. :)

One more question, if I do get the Tremper Enigma het Raptor, and breed it with a Super snow, will I be able to get a Dalmation? Or do I need a Super Snow het for something?

Sorry for all these questions; I really know nothing about genetics...

No, if I incubate all of them, I won't be able to keep them all. I don't want to sell the babies either.

Females can lay anywhere from 4-14 eggs in a season. Thats a lot of Eggs you would be throwing away, PLus your odds are much better if you hatch all the eggs out and choose the offspring afterwards. You can allways give the offspring away you don't want to keep. But you are talking about some animals that could add up to a bit of money of you were to sell them. I know Leos are getting popular over there so why not try and sell a few on the side? They are also getting popular in Japan. Could be worth the time.

Hmm...I had been struggling with the idea of selling off the babies for a long time. Of course, it'll be nice if I could select the best ones to keep myself and then sell off the others; but I'm really concern that they'll end up in the wrong hands. For one thing, I'm pretty sure not many people over here are willing to pay big bucks for these lovely animals. If I sell them cheap, how can I expect the new owners to give the best care to them? I don't want to give away or sell any animal unless I'm 100% sure they're going to have a better life than in my hands. I just can't get pass myself on this.

This a delima all breeders face. The decision comes down to you. But look at the wonderful tool you have access too, the World Wide WEB. You can allways advertise on the web. You might also be albe to work out trades with some of the bigger breeders around the world, say trade all your non keepers for 1 or 2 high end animals. Just some Ideas for you to think about. Also you don't have to sell to whoever comes along, you have the decision wether or not your animal goes to someone or not.

I really think if you going to breed, you owe it to the geckos, to give them a chance at life. Also if you do decided to have top dollar animals, most people that buy animals that are worth big $$$ are going to take care of them. Other outlets are to give them to friends, or other people you trust. It doesn’t seem like you are too worried about the money aspect of it, so that might be the way to go. Also just like said earlier, if you fell a little uneasy about the deal, don’t sell the animal to that individual. I just fell that if you going to put the pair together, to make offspring, that the offspring should at least have a change. And honestly, the majority of leopard gecko owners are most likely going to try their best, to give proper care to their animals. I bought my first gecko form Petco for $20, she was cheap, but I still took care of her, this is how most people are.

Oops just saw this. No to have a Dalmatian, you need to breed a mack enigma to another mack enigma, another mack snow, or a super snow. You could also use a Dalmatian to make more Dalmatians. A Dalmatian is the super form of a mack enigma. Hope that helps. Let me know if that was a bad explanation.

Thanks for the Super snow explanation, I get the idea. :)

Please understand that I'm not located in the U.S, there really is not that big of a gecko community over here in Hong Kong. Maybe there are 2-3 people that I can trust and can sell the geckos to, but that's about it. Trust me, I've seen enough in our local forums, I would rather not hatch out the geckos than to have them live in small critter boxes and become breeding machines. Anyway, it'll still be at least 2-3 years before I go ahead to breed my animals (I haven't even buy the female yet...). I'm still at a very early planning stage. :)
