Someone else more knowledgeable will come along and help too I hope - but just in my limited experience - he/she is definitely a tang, at least a hypo tang but probably a super hypo tang. That means the tanish bands will go away and the body will be all a nice orange color. Looks like the head will be orange too? What age is this gecko? A few weeks?
Some spots may develop on the back, which would make it a hypo tang (super hypo would be NO spots) - but still mostly orange.
Does that help at all? haha
I could post examples of adult tangs, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Try searching through the Share your Leos photo thread and/or do a search for tangs.
Yours could very well look like mine. The first pic is more recent (about 4 months old - cant find my new ones right now), and the bottom pic is closer to the age of yours right now. They will probably look similar. I think the biggest difference might be less black spots on the tail. Wait for some other opinions though.
the guy said it's very young and is only about 4 grams in the picture, i was mostly curious what would happen with the bands (didn't know if they would disappear as it got older or if there would be spots where the bands were) but the consensus so far seems to be no spots, which is what i'm looking for.
thanks, bethany and scott&nikki, i figured someone on here would have raised a similar looking baby.
now my next question is what is a good price for a baby like that one?
Well on professional breeder website, where the babies are from proven breeders - a super hypo tang (probably like yours - all orange, no spots) - would be around $150-$250??? (it varies greatly with intensity of color, lack of spots, carroting on tail, etc.)
However if it's from a pet store or private individual - probably a tad less since the bloodlines aren't as "proven" (keep in mind I'm still very new to all of this! haha) - in that case a good price might be around $70?
I got my super hypo tang from Petco, LOL, $25. See his pic in my little thumbnail pic next to my name.
yea super hypos vary a great bit, ive seen babies for $20-$25 but some breeders have very nice bloodlines that they charge a little more for. The highest ive seen a super hypo recently was $800, but like bethany said it varies by intensity of color, lack of spots, carroting on tail, etc.
Looks like it'll be super hypo, and probably a baldy. How much are they selling it for? Prices vary with age and certainty of the color outlook, meaning if it 'looks like' it'll be a SHTB they may bump the price, but this gecko shouldn't cost you too too much judging by the picture of it now.
they said $50, which seemed reasonable to me based on what i've seen normals go for at pet stores, but i'm not really up on the prices that morphs go for. i'm going to the mars show in baltimore on saturday so i figure i'll get a good idea there and maybe find something i like better or something similar for a better price, wish me luck. since i'm just looking for a pet rather than something i plan on breeding i'm hoping that some of the vendors will have some geckos they can give me deals on.
