What would cause these 2 things?

Nothing wrong with Eggo or Kiwi, but I had a couple questions about eyes and color.

I went to look at 2 geckos that I found on craigslist. One male, one female. Both were baldy, carrot tails. Both had a decent amount of fat on their tails, but could use more. They have been housed in a 20L with a total of(take a breath and sit down) 5 adult geckos, on sand.

She only brought the two for me to see, because I wasn't interested in the others. ANYWAYS, Both geckos had one eye each that appeared very shrunken in and you almost couldn't see the eye. The opposite eye looked fine. I figured maybe infections or stuck sheds could cause that, or genetics. She got them both from the same breeder at the same time. Would those be correct reasons for that?

The other question is, the male was a more of a browny green color. She said he used to be orange! You could still see the carrot in the tail, but the orange was def muted. I think he also had MBD, his legs were not very straight. What causes color to change like that?

Needless to say, I did not add a 3rd gecko to my house today. I did not want to add huge vet bills.

THANKS!!! I just want to learn more about it. I did suggest she take them to a vet to have them looked at.

not to sure about the eye things but colour change is very much linked to the geckos health. healthy happy geckos are bright as well as active.
depending on where abouts it is in its shed cycle dose also produch a brown dulling of the skin as well.
good idea not to take them. even if it is heart breaking

That sounds just terrible. Could be MBD or stuck shed that infected the eye. Hard to tell without doing tests on the subjects. Good decision to not bring them into your house. Infections can spread, especially with animals that mostly communicate through physical contact.

I was thinking on the shed thing, she said he had just shed a couple days ago. I def figured the health was pretty bad, especially after seeing the eyes.

poor health and poor housing would also make the skin sort of flaky like dandruffy too.
I guess MBD could effect the eyes like that as it dose sort of cave the skull in :S

ya the eyes looked like they had fallen into the skull. You could see the bottom of the socket where the eye would normally be. I didn't think that MBD could cause that too.

Low temps can cause color to be dull, brown or greyish. I've taken in a few like that for rehab that turned out to be quite colorful. Stuck shed can cause the eye to pull back in the skull, layer upon layer. When removed, the eye pops back out. But there could very well be an underlying infection. Then the MBD.... heartache. Sounds like the geckos in question are in overall poor health and would require a good bit of rehab effort, as well as vet bills as you said. That person should have done the right thing long ago and adopted out the poor things.
