What's a snake eye?

What does a snake eye look like and how does it occur? Is a line-bred trait or does it apply only to certain morphs? If anyone has a pic, that would be great.

Snake Eye is term Ron Tremper coined for eyes that are half solid black or red (albino) and half normal.

They first occurred in Raptors, Eclipse (non albino Raptor) and Blizzards, but have popped up in two other cases that I know of. One is my Mack Snow het Blizzard and the other is a Rainwater Albino het Blizzard hatched by Shelly from Lizard Lair.

At this point the genetics aren't proven and it's unknown if the Blizzard and Raptor forms are the same.

As Michael stated we don't know for sure too much about the genetics of the snake eyes or the eclipse, other than they are related to the stripe pattern. I don't believe the snake eyes from the blizzards are the same as the others. Funny thing I just saw today was that JMG has a Super Snow with Snake eyes, NOT solid eyes.

Michael, No store to tell, she's just a stripe with Snake Eyes.

Funny thing I just saw today was that JMG has a Super Snow with Snake eyes, NOT solid eyes.

snake eyes

dont really know why or how it occurs but heres my story. i purchased 1.5 hypo's 66% het for albino (tremper). about 1/2 way throught the breeding season i hatched an albino with snake eyes since then i have hatched 2 more albinos 1 with and 1 without snake eyes and 2 "normal hypos" with snake eyes. im not sure if having the snake eyes would make the normals hets or not. i hope to prove them next season. heres some pics. see you at white plains tomorrow........Kirk
