Just wondering what some people used to feed their dubias. This is our first colony, and they seem do be doing ok.

I did a little only research and did a mix of dry dog food, some wheat bran, and cheerios mix. Also throw in some veggies and fruit about once a week. They go nuts over the veggies and fruit, ate the cherrios, but won't touch the dog food?

Just want so see some different mixes other people use so we can best gut load these guys for out gex. :main_thumbsup:

No recipe here, just throw food in, roaches eat it. Dry oatmeal, powdered milk, chicken bones (they eat the meat off), oranges, apples, mangos (they LOVE mangos!), melon, baby food, bread, carrots, leafy greens, whatever. They're roaches, they can live on just about anything. The healthier their food is, the healthier they are for your geckos. I don't feed dog food because I don't want my geckos eating dog food.

I also use whole food. Dry dog food (usually Beneful), Egg laying chicken feed, various greens (varies by week), carrots.

Ground up dog food (same stuff I feed my dogs, Taste of the Wild, which is grain free), I mix in a little calcium and herptivite. I toss in a couple oranges a week (dubia viagra), and whatever greens my bearded dragon doesn't eat.

Mine get leftovers. Nothing canned or fast food. Only if I make something sauce free. Whatever fruits or veggies my 2 yr doesn't eat. Dry oatmeal, bran, and I do have an "organic" dog food that goes in if we are low on greens & what not.

I've heard from many different places to use ground up high protein cat food. and give them greens/fruits every once in a while. like as a treat, you can also order "Roach Chow" From many different online sites which sell roaches. I think i am going to try feeding mine ground rodent blocks as they have very high protein and seem to have good ingredients. I have also heard to add some crushed flake fish food to the mix.

dubia roaches don't get much if any animal protein in the wild so feeding them dog or cat food really isn't the greatest thing... yeah they can eat but IMO they really shouldn't.

the GF has done alot of research on dubia roach care over the years and we have a roach chow formula which is quite elaborate and expensive BUT you have to figure that you are feeding your roach and your pet. with us first and foremost is out pets health care so feeding our feeders a not so good diet really isn't an option. most "roach chow" out there is ground up dog food where what we concoct has no animal protein and LOTS of goodies in it that the roaches thrive on.

beyond the chow we also feed the fruits/veggies mostly oranges and apples sliced.

for supplemental watering we use a potassium based water crystal

I've been just using ground Natural Balance dog food, grain free, just because its what I have on hand. Sometimes I throw in carrots or potatoes, and they have water crystals, too. My dubia are growing fast and reproducing quickly. I've only had them a month, but I already see some tiny babies crawling around! I bought some roach chow mix from PremiumCrickets that I'm gonna try out when I switch them over to a larger tub.
