I haven't counted, but I give my babies 30-40 a time and they're mostly gone the next day. My first two that hatched on 6/10 are 40 and 37 grams!

I had a small girl, I think around 20 grams, ate 39 mealworms in one feeding, but they were only medium sized mealies. I know she can eat more if I keep on offering, but I don't want her stomach to blow...so the record stopped there.

do you leave mealworms in the tank for how long? you prefer give some mealworms 3 or 4 times in a week or geckos can found them when they prefer in the tank? ..i give only mealworms to my gechos (sometimes 2 or 3 crickets a week) and i live them in the cage (i change them 2 times in a week for put some fresh worms)..
(sorry if i put the questions here, but is a simple question for a new post ;-)

personally I don't leave them at all, if theres some left after a few hours and I know everyone had a few, I take them out and put them back in the colony, so they don't lose nutrient value

I typically give my leos a few days worth of food. Some eat them over night, some in 1-2 days others still have some after the 3-4 days at which time I simply toss the mealworms. I don't know if it is but I tend to feel after they've been in the feed bowls for a few days they migth be less active than fresh mealworms
Tonya I'd recommand against re-using the mealworms which have been offered to leos already. Mealworms often like to find leo feces & feed on them they can contract parasite or numous other negative patagons which could thus be tranmited to other leos. Many parasites are known live within animals within a amount not caused serious harm to the inhabit. Yet when transferred to a new habitant it maybe another story any leo which might get too many of these parasites or which might have been "under the weather", not in its prime could become sickly or deathly ill. I'm by far not the an expert nor the best person to speck about medical things, although that has been known as being bad practice.

I give mine enough for 2 days. I used to reuse the uneaten ones, but stopped doing that after I thought about exactly what you mentioned Xavier. I usually don't have to toss too many.

I've also noticed the same thing Xavier. The ones I'm about to toss are almost always sluggish...if they're moving at all. A number of my geckos know by smell (guessing) that they're still good...but some won't eat unless the worms are wigglin. Those are the ones that tend to eat a lot in one sitting.

Shanti made a very good point why risk the health of your leos for just a few mealworms!

I don't let them run free, I have the mealies in an escape proof container, I never find any roaming around, and mostly, there isn't any left after hungry babies are done

The fact they are in contact with the leos and then place back into your colony is the issue, the whole feces thing was just one example. They can still contract other things when they are in the container that leo enter daily.

I can't say for sure how many food items my geckos eat at a time, but I can say that recycling food items is risky. Let's say a gecko has a parasitic infection, and it licks several mealworms in a bowl trying to find one that moves. Since most parasitic infections are spread by oral/fecal contact, all the worms that got licked are now potentially contaminated. Putting them back in the bin is putting the rest of the geckos at risk of infection.

I've actually stopped sharing food items now too. I've gotten into the habit of offering a little at a time that way there isn't a bowl mealies that go uneaten, just a few here or there. Then again, I actually have a worm infestation right now in my entire group of 6 leos and my 1 beardie, so, yeah. Medicine is oh so fun to give them all, the beardie is the worst though..he's a turd.

I think my record right now for my leos is one of my new girls who is an absolute pig. She's taken 6 supers and 15 near full grown mealies before. Absolute pig. She eats more than my first male leo does and he has the fattest tail of all my leos...it's crazy how much she eats. But it's good, cause a healthy appetite means good things when it comes to having parasites or sickness. It's when she stops eating that I'll be worried :S.
She actually eats more than my beardie does...is that surprising? I'm serious too. My beardie eats just fine, gets full and what not, but she out does him...and he's gotta be at least 5 times her size lol.

it's always best to feed your mealies before feeding them to your leos, so they get the most out of what they're eating. I have my colony eating apple and sweet potato
