Wheat bran as a substrate?

For those who want a sandy look without risking impaction, is fine wheat bran okay for use as a substrate? I have heard it mentioned as a good substrate for bearded dragons before, but, as insectivores (as opposed to beardies, which are omnivores), do they have the digestive systems necessary to process the wheat bran?

I would be concerned about the high level of phytates in wheat bran preventing proper calcium absorption if they did eat it.

i dont think its the best idea - if u want a natural look why not get tile? I'm going to be doing that soon - since all my leos are on display around my house :D
