When is it too late to mate when gravid?

I have a female that I can clearly see the egg in and I was wondering at what point is it not advisable to keep trying to have the male mate her?

I was putting him in every other day & after copulation I would remove him.

So when is the cut off time for a female before she lays?

I am a future breeder so don't quote me on this but out of every thing I've read once she is ovulated and you can see it clearly remove the male and then introduce the male after she layed the eggs. Even though females can retain sperm it is always good to reintroduce every time or every other time after laying.
