which albino is which

I've seen lots of threads about this albino or that. What I am wondering about is what to look for to visually distinguish ordinary bells, trempers, and rainwaters.

For example, in another thread, there was discussion about the eye of the bell/tremper. Some say the eye is too dark to be a tremper? I was told my little guy is a bell, and it's because of his eye; and his is much lighter than the one in the pic. :main_huh:

Anyhow, I think a thread with pics and explainations about what characteristics to look for could be very helpful.

Maybe there already is such a thread about this here that I haven't found yet. If so, a link would be great!

Thanks

There's not much that visually tells them apart...it's just an educated guess. I would say the eyes are the main thing that can tell them apart.

lol then I guess the best we can do is post pics and hope someone who knows is able to point us in the right direction.

Here is one of the better shots of my little guy's eye that is on photobucket. He seems to be a lot more difficult to get good pics of than my tang leo. I've been told that he is a bell. Do you agree? If so, why?

That pupil color looks pretty red(bell like) to me, but do you have a full body image too?

His eyes themselves are a very pale tan or creme colored, and his pupils, in bright light do have a red tint to them.

So you say bell because of the eye? My Albino has the same sort of eye I guess.

If I understand correctly, bells tend to have redish pupils in their eyes, and the other albino strains don't, and it doesn't have anything to do with the lightness or darkness of the iris part of the eye.

Is there anything else that you looked at to make your determination?

Thanks

We said Bell because of the body patterning too. Eventually, it's easier to tell them apart just by the experience you have. It's pretty impossible to explain to someone how to tell because there are always exceptions.

A dark tremper got dark eyes too, I think... Trempers with white/pink eyes are mostly very light in pattern colors too.

Here is Zarah, a dark tremper female (Chocolate):

And Axe, an aptor (tremper;) ):

Bells typically have the darker spots no matter the temp they are incubated at. The "dotted" look with the lavendar are markings very common among Bells, whereas Trempers have pink bands or markings when they get older. Of course this is very vague and like I said before, there are exceptions but as you have more experience, it becomes easier to tell them apart.

The last chocolate Tremper and the stripe Bell that Lottiz posted do look alot alike. Other Bells and Trempers are easier to tell.
