Which Morph Should I Breed?

There seem to be enough morph leopard geckos around to make my head spin. If someone would be kind enough, could you please give me a crash course on morphs?

Also: I know morphs are a recessive trait, so would breeding 1 normal colored male with a morph female be good? Or should I just get all morphs so baby morphs are less a roll of the dice?

I'm no breeder, but I have a feeling any one of them would say, it sounds like you're jumping in without any knowledge of these awesome animals.

Most of them would probably recommend that you buy one animal of the morph you like first and take care of the one for at least a year before you start considering breeding.

I would love to breed but owning one of these guys and successfully raising it is pretty in depth. I have 3 but would never say I know enough to start breeding, yet.

good luck

Thank you for scolding me, I assure you though, it will take a while for me to even get geckos and the space they require. I'm trying to gather as much information as I can to give them the handling they deserve and know I will need to give them and myself time before breeding them. Which means scouring the internet for care sheets before I get them, giving them time to get used to me, ect. I can tell you I'm taking this seriously. Hence the novice questions.

I wasn't trying to scold. Sorry.

I haven't been around here long enough to be a scolder.

I'm new too. I was on this website for months before I bought my first gecko as well.

there are dominant, co-dominant and recessive traits as well as polygenic traits or morphs as they are often referred to.

until you know a bit more about the animals and their care, i'd recommend against considering breeding. by the time you're ready to breed leopard geckos you'll have all the answers to your own questions.
:)

good luck!

It really doesn't take much space or expertise to raise a leo. Hands-on doing is the best teacher. If you want to learn about different morphs, go to http://leopardgeckowiki.com and look at pics of the morphs. Also go to the "show off your leos" part of this forum (and or the classifieds) and look at pics of geckos. When you see one that catches your eye, go to the leopardgeckowiki and learn about the morph.
