W&Y's as a morph do not have the same issues that enigmas have. The problems that have been talked about have been seen in a host of other morphs completely unrelated to W&Y's. Ive seen it myself. Even the symptoms are not the same. People seem to be jumping to conclusions over a video posted on FB that happened to have a W&Y that had an affliction of some kind (which BTW I think should have been posted), but a few people were VERY quick to assume it was W&Y related. I have several and not one has had any kind of neurological problem, nor have any of the babies. Nor have 99.9% of any other W&Y that Im aware of. Compare that to the 75% or so of enigmas that have a visible problem. And the other 25% will probably develop the same problems over time.

IMO it has much more to do with the crazy amount of inbreeding that goes on. Its fine to a certain level but there should be a lot more outcrossing going on. Not just in W&Y's but in every morph.

Leos can and are bred within a year of birth. The turn around rate for them is a lot higher than with say Ball pythons. In turn the inbreeding/transfer of genes is ridiculously fast. With that also comes a lot more issues/defects/etc

Lol. That was mentioned. I'm not sold on a w&y syndrome yet because it hasn't infected my collection. But with euro breeders coming now and saying "oh yeah we have known about that for years" doesn't help. If there was a problem they should have said a long time ago. I do feel bad for the breeders with geckos that have this problem but it seems to only be in a select gene pool or lineage.

Well I'm from europe, and have not heared about a "W&Y syndrom" "in the past years"..
2 important factors for the problems reported above surely are too much inbreeding with the W&Y's, and also accidentally or willingly crossing W&Y to Enigma resulting in offspring with unsure genetics, and the use of such so called "phantom carriers" (a term in dogbreeding describing of a dog where 1 dominant mutation covers the other) in breeding.. As I already said in the debate in facebook- how can we be sure the W&Y's showing the symptoms do not have some Enigmas in their "pedigree" ? There have been so many crosses of those 2 traits recently..
Sorry for the off topic post :main_lipsrsealed:
BTW awesome geckos Morgan :)!!!

Rebecca I completely agree that enigma x w&y is probably where a lot of the confusion is coming from. I have no enigma lineage in any of my collection anymore just so I wouldn't cross projects or use sibling offspring to outcross projects.

Morgan, we have seen zero issues with WY in our experience. Not sure where this is coming from. In fact, our WYs all seem to be very friendly, docile, and normal. I don't take stock in rumors, so until I see things for myself or feedback from respectable breeders, I would consider this just that...a rumor.

I agree Ray. I made the video after getting so many emails after Michael posted the w&y funky jungle video of them falling over and having "w&y syndrome". As I said in my video, mine are completely healthy and probably more perceptive than others I have.

I did have one who acted a bit enigma like and flopped over. No enigma in it. But all my others have been fine. Both my w/y breeders came from Matt, so I know the genetics were correct.

Now I need to go watch the video. This is the first time I've heard about this.
