White powdery substance?

Hi all,

Tonight when I returned my little lady to her home I went to replenish her moist hide with water and found this chalky white powdery stuff growing on the sides of her repti shelter.
Can anyone identify what this is?

It's been about 3 1/2 weeks since I last cleaned her terrarium.

Rob

Looks like the salt I find around my fish tank filters. What kind of substrate is in your tank? Do you have a water softener in your house? I might get a water testing kit and check the salinity level and other things of your tap water or check your water filter.

Hi Doc!
I don't have a water softener and my filter does need to be changed. The substrate is repticarpet.
Could there be salt in sphagnum moss? Plus how is it growing on the outside if the water is inside? Could the water be working it's way through the repti shelter walls?

I see that stuff around my freshwater fish tank filter. I don't know what it is but just wipe it off

I have no idea what it is. I'd probably take the hide out, give it a good 24 hour soak in bleach, then several rinses and anther 24 hour soak in water, and then put it back in the cage. I'd also give the cage a good cleaning just to be safe. If it comes back after that I would clean again and switch it out for an ugly tupperware hide in and see if it grows on that too. If it does I'm out of suggestions..lol

It's for sure calcium deposits or salt. Probably calcium. It's gotta be something in your water or in the terrarium reacting with the water... No bueno
