Why are some eclipses dark?

Isnt it kind of odd how many eclipses hatch out kind of dark, with like a grey/brown look to them and then the lighten to a yellow/orange over time?

I just hatched one out, not a great example but the other eclipses I hatched out from same parents were not like this...
Main difference is that the darker one was incubated at 84, as opposed to 82 of the other two hatchlings...

Possibly an indication of future levels of melanism/spotting, as in some Super Snows; they hatch looking solid grey then spot up as they grow.
