Why do leos lick?

Does anybody know why leopard geckos lick everything? i know its not just mine because i hear it all the time. Is it like how snakes stick their tongue out to taste the air? Or is it a way to feel things? Or are they tasting things for food? Or is it that nobody really knows?

I think but don't quote me on this but I think I read somewhere that they have like a jacobs organ or something like that. I don't remember where I saw that or whether I misread it or something. Someone thats more educated needs to fill in if I am wrong. thats the only thing I can think of unless they have a licking obsession lol...

my leopards lick water of my finger if they are wet. I had one of my newer females lick my finger but no ideal why.

Its one of their primary sensory organs. They are just seeing whats going on. Who has been there before. If there is some food around.. Or anything else to that extent.

Thats how they drink , mine usually like their food before they eat it.
