i just bought a leo from jmg reptile. he was fed crickets by the breeder and so far doesn't seem too interested in mealies (granted it's only been a few hours) i'm wondering if he will eat the mealworms on his own when he gets settled in a bit more or if i'm going to have to buy crickets for him for a while until i can get him to switch (which i have no idea of how to go about doing)... anyone have experience with a situation like this?

Just leave the mealies in there and give him no crickets. Unless he is loosing weight, don't feed him. He will switch over.

I got good news for you. I have bought 3 leos from JMG 2 albinos (my fav ever ...don't tell my boyfriend that) and a little snow. All three of which were 3 months old when i bought them. The little female just got here about a week ago. And already eating over 12 mealies every day to every other day. So yes they will switch.

he's eating like a champ (at least 4 or 5 medium sized mealies this evening already) i guess he must've just been nervous at first. i finally saw him eat one by sitting next to his cage with the red party bulb from walmart shining on him.

boy do i feel silly for worrying at first, this guy's a little porker i can hardly keep up with him, he's really chowing down. i just put another 5 or 6 in for him and he's almost done with them all...

Mine two leos eat both mealies and crickets. It took them a couple days to start on the mealies but once they did they love them. I give them like 5-6 crickets per leo a night and like 15 mealies by the morning they are gone. I'm waiting right now for my next order to get here and I was watching them other night after they finished there crickets they went over to the mealies bowl and sat there with their fronts on the side of the dish like hey were are my worms!
