Will this work for a rack?

Rack systems are very expensive pre-made and melamine or plywood weigh a ton. Would something like this work to place the Sterilite/Rubbermaid containers on? Do you see any problem with this kind of a set up?

If you don't mind a ton of unused space then sure... but it will be a more daunting task to keep the heat from escaping due to all the airspace.
