Oh wow, I came home from my class and went to check on Merlin. It was so freaky at first to see him out during the day. I had read that shedding generally takes place at night right? Well I suppose Merlin just couldn't wait to get that skin off so he went right at it. He looked freaked out at first, I had his moist hide already sprayed and I read that during this time it's best to spray the tank some too to help with the process so he seemed grateful for that. He's in his moist hide now since most of it's done. I thought it was an all night event? I wonder why he began shedding during the day?

it's kinda like watching someone escape from a straightjacket!
:)

LOL yea kinda, like he just couldn't get out of it fast enough. He used his layered rock thing to try to get some of it off at first, then went back to chewing it off. I still think that's weird that they eat it but I guess it makes sense, if they're out in the wild they want to make sure they get rid of their presence so other predators won't come after them. That's my guess anyways as to why they eat their shed skin.

Thanks for that, and he seems to have gotten it all off on his own now and he's sleeping in his moist hide. I wonder if he'll want to eat when he wakes up or if he'll be full from his shedding earlier?

My leo is actually pretty active in the day time, weirdly enough. She's actually finishing up today's shed now. She looks like a little ghost (she's leucistic I think) right now - kinda creepy.

Yea it scared me half to death till I remembered that it was part of their shedding process. He was able to get the entire shedding off by himself (I checked!) and he's been resting during the day, active at night again. He ate crickets tonight and that made me happy! I was worried because for awhile he wasn't interested in crickets. He'd been eating mealworms till now. But now that he has an interest in crickets, I will definitely be giving him those now too. Not sure how to go about it though since he still loves his mealworms. Oh well, I wonder if I will get to witness the next shedding process? That was still so cool to see!
