June bug won't drink from a dish...ever. Every time I fill the water dish he runs up and sucks up all the loose water that spills out but wont drink out of the dish...then when I mist his moist hide he runs over and stays in it for like 10 minutes drinking all the drops of water...

What do I do?

Maybe he likes moving water? Try a waterfall, but that might bump the humidity too much.. Or try making some sort of drip system? You could always just mist part of his tank daily for him if nothing else.

my leos never drink from the dish, but i leave it there just incase. i just mist the tank about 3 times a day, and they do the same thing (lick the drops). i figure as long as theyre getting some kind of h2o it doesnt really matter how they get it. whatever makes them happy, i guess :)

i use no dish in my tank but i do make sure the moist hide is moist. They drink off the side of the box. They dont need much water as they indiginous to low water areas.:main_thumbsup:

Misting them is fine. They do not reqiure much water as they get alot of there moisture from their food. I would mist her every day though.. I had a gecko escape for 6 months that was nursed back to health, That tells you how long they can go without h2o

IMO you should be more concerned with a respiratory problem from too much humidity. It can cause death or if you are lucky only a Vet bill. Misting the tank down is not a good plan.
He will eat and he will drink when he is hungry or thirsty.
(unless he is sick or has an illness)
Try building up a platform to the water level in the container so he can rest on it to drink.
Maybe he's on the lazy side..........you're doing it the way he likes it,
why should he change?
Take care. HJ

Well actually the dish is one of those really shallow ones, so he can just stand and drink out of it, he could probably lay down, lazy :p

I know not to mist, it's never a good idea unless you are experienced, but even then, even slightly higher humidity can cause a problem with a low humidity animal.
