I'm in the process of decorating a new larger aquarium tank to use now that our little leo is growing a bit larger (she's about 4 months now) and I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, I have a reptile mat that will cover one half of the cage but is it OK to use fabric to cover the other half? I have two linen type placemats that have the exact colors that will really look attractive in there...would this be safe?

Second question is about the use of a small desktop fountain. The cord would have to run up the inside of the glass but I see other people's terrariums (from the gecko housing thread) have various cords inside theirs. Just want to make sure this would be safe as the fountain will look really awesome in there.

I always welcome the opinions of those with more experience since we are newbie leo family :main_thumbsup:

Reptile carpet isn't very sanitary... *I'd* personally never use it but everyone has their own substrate preference. A waterfall would look cute but it'd be tough to clean if you're planning on using it as their water source, and they could also potentially escape using the cord.

The reptile mat is washable but what do you use?

i personally use paper towels, but some people use tiles. both are easy to clean, but the tiles are obviously more aesthetically pleasing. if you decide to use reptile carpet, just get two or three. that way when you are washing one you have a replacement to put in. paper towels are disposable, and tiles can easily be spot cleaned. but leos tend to poop in one spot. once you find that spot, you can always put down some papertowel there. as far as the waterfall, shouldn't be a problem as long as you have a top on the tank that closes completely.
