Are all baby leos little devils or is it just ours? Our first baby that hatched yesterday is evil, I swear!! I stuck my hand in her container to change her water and to make sure the bottom of the cage wasn't too hot and she lunged at me, mouth wide open, hissing like a friggin' snake or something!! :stunned: Can someone tell me if that's normal or not? I'm afraid to stick my hand in there now b/c it makes me feel like I'm scaring her and stressing her out or something. (I keep saying her b/c it was incubated for F btw.) So....What say you????

Most of my baby leos that are born, are like that. They calm down after a few days. They need to get use to their new environment. It wont stress them to much. Just as long as your in and out on what you need to do in their enclosure.

Yea, I can imagine I would be pretty P.O.'d too. lol. It just so funny though because our second one that hatched this morning is so mellow and doesn't act mean at all. I was just trying to see if that was normal or if we hatched the reptilian little satan or something. lol

my newest 2 hatchlings are a month old, one was cool after about 2 weeks and the other still kinda puffs up when I open their enclosure, lol. So you just never know. But I agree they should calm down by a month or two and way before 6 months.

(lol) I hope so. I finished their "nursery" this morning, so they were pretty wired, but I hope that they chill out in a few days or so cuz it's literally taking every fiber of willpower that I have to not touch them every five seconds. lol

lol, I know, they are so cute when they are newborns. As many Babies as I've had, I still get excited when babies are born. And I find myself always in the snakeroom checking on them, lol

I think they sound like mini velociraptors, and it's part of why I love leos.
They crack me up, with their newborn, tail-swishing, swagger.

A lot of hatchlings are like that, but a few are mellow and let you hold them from day one.
I love both kinds. :D

I read that most hatchlings and babies are very ornery for awhile after they're born. It's a defense mechanism because they are easy prey in the wild, so their only hope is to try to be as scarey as possible.

Mine freaked out to varying degrees. It just takes a little time. Both Toon and Hugzor were skittish and would raise up when I had to pick them up but they didn't really try to get away. Now they're both little ragdolls when I pick them up. Epic, my diablo blanco, must be trying to live up to his name. He is literally a white devil. He scares me! He screeches and hisses and puts on a big show. But he's not quite 2 months old.

We've got a Diablo Blanco that we recently purchased that over a year old and it just as evil as ever. Every time you pick her up she bites you and hisses and squeaks. If you touch her face, you might as well just have given her your finger. (lol) She's absolutely ridiculous. lol

Thats why they call hatchlings "lil screamers" my first hatchling climbed right up onto my hand from the container and never ONCE screamed hissed or showed any type of aggression...infact she would lay for hours just under my sweatshirt on my arm. This is the reason she was held back because every single other hatchling at one point or another gave me the Leo ScReAm!!!!! First time I heard it I had to double take, I couldn't believe that noise came out of that little thing!!!

As for taming...after the baby starts eating I handled them daily, one for weights but also just to handle them...within weeks they were calming down, but that was only after they first shed and meal. They are kinda hilarious at this stage!!

When our first hatchling came out making that noise, I actually did a double take cuz I couldn't believe that little thing was so loud. lol. Our second was the exact opposite. She crawled right out of the bowl and posted up in my palm. lol. I've decided to name them Tweedle~Dee and Tweedle~Dum for that very reason. (lol)

If my little girl ends up being feisty, I'm gonna make a sign that says "Beware of Gecko" and put it on the wall above the tank :p
