You cannot breed giant mealies?

I have grown tired of driving into the city to buy mealworms for my Leo. I believe I have all the information I need to successfully grow my own mealworm colony. HOWEVER, I just discovered that giant mealworms are impossible to breed, as they are genetically modified, and will grow up to be sterile beetles? Is this true? I would appreciate anyones input, as I am headed into town today, and will purchase regular mealworms if I must. :main_angry:

To answer my own question, I called up The Bug Company, and they confirmed that they do in fact genetically modify the giant mealworms. This means they should not enter the pupae stage. Should they manage to reach the beetle stage, they will not reproduce. :main_thumbsdown:

I guess I will be buying a couple containers of regular mealies the next time I head into town.

Well, that's good to know. I've started a colony and I think I have some giants in there. That sucks.
