Young Mack Snow Didn't Eat All Shed?

Hey everyone-

I bought a baby Mack Snow leo on Saturday and she's been adjusting to her new home. My setup is great, temps are perfect, etc. She is absolutely tiny (maybe 4.5 inches long) and stick skinny, but I believe this is because she is so young. Regardless, I am glad I have her instead of the locally owned reptile store.

Anyway, my question is this: she's been rejecting food so far, which is normal, because she is barely half a week into living in her new home and she is so little. To my surprise, I came home from work tonight to find in the final stages of shedding. She has left some of her shed in the hide, uneaten. The majority of it has been consumed as far as I can tell, but there are a few nice strips that are just laying there. Is this normal for Leos of such a young age? My High Yellow Leo never did this as far as I can tell when I bought him, but he was also bigger than the Mack Snow.

Thank you in advance!

It has been my experience that sometimes some leos do not eat every bit of shed. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Just make sure your new little one got it all off.

In my experience, they don't often eat every last piece of their shed. My adult tremper girl usually leaves a few scraps, and has since she was young.

Just make sure he doesn't have anything stuck.

HAHA! That is too funny =) I am still not letting the Leo off the hook- her poo was kind of runny. But then again, I'm only really going to get concerned if this happens a few more times in a row, rather than just this one time. She hasn't really eaten yet at all.

It may have to do with the shedding (in addition to the new environment). Mine never eats about 2 days before or after she sheds. Her poo is also sometimes a little soft and runny after shedding. Apparently it's "shed-poo"

I have one male that will not eat his "entire tail shed" all the time. I will regularly find his shed tail under his hide on cleaning days. Yet he does not go off food when he is shedding, all of my leos are like that, they barely go off food when shedding. They could be in full blue and I will toss some worms in front of them and they will eat them.

Considering that yours is so young and just newly settling in it could be just holding out on eating until comfortable and not eating the shed could just be a fluke this time or a regular occurrence in future sheds. It does not mean anything bad if they do not eat the entire shed.

I have a young one that I just brought home a little over a week ago. Night 2 He started shedding and ate about 80% of it. He began eating about 2-3 days after the shed. Not sure if it was the new home, the shed, or the combination. Needless to say I was very happy when he starting munching down worms.

Thank you for all the advice, everyone! She still hasn't eaten (that I've seen) but she's used her poo-corner five or six times, so she must be working! :p She's slowly coming around. I'll just give her a few more days.
