Zilla Temperature Controller question

I recently purchased a Zilla thermostat from +++++ for my Leopard Gecko terrarium. The one I purchased can be found at http://www.+++++.com/product/108340/Zilla-Temperature-Controllers.aspx. I currently have the temperature probe sitting inside my warm hide next to the uth. I feel like the temperature probe is way to big and doesn't want to stay in one place. I can't get it to stay in place on top of the reptile carpet I am currently using. Has anyone else ever used a similar thermostat with reptile carpet? How do you get it to stay where you want it? Would the temperature readings be accurate if I taped it under the terrarium next to the heating pad rather than in the aquarium? It does have a suction cup to hold the probe in place but that suction cup does not work on the carpet so I thought it might work if I put it under the tank instead.

Perhaps you could make a small slit in the carpet to stick the suction cup through? That way, the probe itself would stay on top of the carpet but it would be fixed in place by the suction cup on the glass.

Thank you!

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll try it both ways (in the tank and under the tank) to see which one seems to be more accurate and which one I like better.

You should tape it to the UTH below the tank. This will allow it to have shorter more frequent on times and keep a consistent temperature. Putting the probe inside the tank causes the UTH to get hot for a longer period of time to heat the probe. Then the probe is warm, heater shuts off gets cool and by the time it heats up again the hide is cool. You have to monitor the hide temp with a thermometer to get the right setting on your thermostat (often set about 4 degrees higher than desired hot spot). It only takes a day or two or less once you have done it a few times.
